We welcome 2017 with a great line-up of opportunities for members. Check out our event listing at the end of this e-news for all your options.
On the education front, our big news is that we will be in a new venue for our education conferences this year. We have happy memories of our years at The Executive Inn in Burnaby, but the good news is that we outgrew the space! With more members choosing to join us at every conference, I’m sure we’ll fill our new conference venue in Richmond at the Westin Wall Centre. Our staff has recently sampled the food and we can tell you…you’re in for a treat! Join us there for our Spring Education Conference on April 1.
After a trial run in 2016, we can announce 100% success of our program of scheduled workshops and webinars. Check out the line-up so far for 2017, and don’t forget places are limited so sign up now to avoid disappointment.
The first scheduled workshop of the season will be Investments 101 on January 31, sponsored by Encasa Financial. Enjoy a full meal and only pay half the usual scheduled workshop fee.
Second in the scheduled workshop series is Create a Member Orientation Package on the morning of Saturday, February 18. We responded to your suggestions to create this hands-on workshop, so join us for breakfast and leave with a member orientation package before lunch!
Don’t forget you get a discount if your co-op registers for six or more scheduled workshops, an incentive to get one of your members to every one. More workshops will be added as dates are confirmed. Expect to see at least one per month.
Deadline for conference workshop proposals extended
We have extended the deadline to submit a workshop proposal for our Spring Education Conference on April 1 – the new deadline is Friday, January 27, 2017.
Application deadline is March 3, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.
Does your co-op need a long-term plan?
Did you know that CHF BC can help your co-op plan for the future?
Long-term planning is critical to a co-op's success. CHF BC offers a variety of planning services to support co-ops and ensure they remain able to provide members with good-quality housing and remain sustainable, thriving communities.
To date, 88 co-ops and over 1,400 co-op homes have signed up to get deep discounts on HDTV, High-Speed Internet and Home Phone services through our Co-op Telecom Program. If your co-op has already signed up, it's simple to join. For co-ops new to the program, we can make the sign-up process even easier with a sign-up event at your co-op. Members find it's a great way to get answers to all their questions, meet our TELUS partners and sign-up for the program on the spot.
We hope your co-op's members will be next in line to benefit from the Telecom Program and our partnership with TELUS. If you have questions or want to ask us to hold a sign-up event at your co-op, contact Faye Dolati, our Telecom Program Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer for the Homelessness Count!
Our Housing Central partner, the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, is recruiting qualified volunteersnow for the 2017 Metro Vancouver Homeless Count. The count will take place throughout Metro Vancouver inside shelters during the evening of Tuesday, March 7, 2017 and on the streets on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.
By volunteering for the count, you will be helping to gather valuable information used by governments, service providers, community groups, and funders so they can plan appropriate programs to address homelessness and measure our progress in reducing homelessness.
