2022 Century of Co-operation Awards Ceremony
5 October 2022 Thank you to everyone who attended CHF BC’s annual Century of Co-operation awards ceremony on September 29, 2022 at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver. The day was filled with laughter, music and great people!
We were overjoyed to be able to bring back the Century of Co-operation Awards Ceremony for our long-time co-operators after our 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Our ceremony welcomed large groups from both Misty Ridge and Granville Gardens Co-op who shared their remarkable stories living in their co-ops, and the sense of community and security they experienced being part of a housing cooperative. We also wanted to say a special thank you to Doug from Vancouver East Co-op who gave everyone quite a performance with his fiddle for, and a big thank you to our Aging in Place Committee for joining us in celebrating this monumental occasion.Our award program is inspired by the successful Century of Co-operation awards program created by the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto (CHFT). This was CHF BC’s fifth Century of Co-operation awards ceremony and seventh year awarding our long-time co-operators. We awarded 92 Century of Co-operation awards in total this year–a record number!
To qualify, recipients must have been currently living in a CHF BC member housing co-op, and their age plus the length of time they have lived in co-op housing must add up to 100 years or more.
This ceremony also coincided with National Seniors Day on October 1st and we had the pleasure of having staff from the Seniors Services Society of B.C. join us.
We will be celebrating this milestones with our interior and island co-op members in the upcoming months. As for everyone that unfortunately could not come this year, we hope to see you next year!
Nominations for next year will open in July 2023.
