Seventeen Island co-ops and 33 members turned out for a day of workshops at the Fall Island Education Day on Saturday, November 8.The morning workshop, Effective boards and committees took a fresh look at the roles and responsibilities of boards and committees and best practices for changing times. In the afternoon members who took the Policies for the 21st century examined how co-ops may need to update their policies as co-ops face end of operating agreements, changing demographics and aging buildings.Participants were eager to get ready for the future – and brought lots of enthusiasm for finding out how to become a 2020 Co-op, upgrading skills of existing board members and putting education plans in place for new and future board members.Members of all the different co-ops mingled and made connections and some discussed ways they could continue to share ideas between co-ops more in the future.Members who took part in the Island Education Day can access the workshop materials online now.
