At the Annual General Meeting on November 21, 2021, five directors were acclaimed to fill openings on the CHF BC board including three new directors and two re-elected directors.
The Vancouver Island director was acclaimed at the Vancouver Island Council meeting held in October.
On November 22, 2021, the Governor General delivered the Speech of the Throne outlining the recently re-elected Liberal government’s new priorities. Co-ops carry debt for a few reasons: they may still be paying off their original mortgages for construction and land acquisition; they may be borrowing to secure a new lease; or they may undertake significant capital renewals (like new envelopes or parkade membrane replacements) that trigger borrowing.
Whatever the reason for having debt, interest rate trends are worth keeping an eye on.

We are very sad to say goodbye to Fiona Jackson as she leaves CHF BC to take on a new challenge. Since January 2010, Fiona has been the steward of the communication channels between CHF BC and our members.
For CHF BC, she has been a calming and mature presence, and someone who would provide an ear and soothing resolution to the day to day challenges that co-op members faced. Fiona has demonstrated a commitment and loyalty to CHF BC’s mission and vision and the co-operative values.

The Housing Central Virtual Art Exhibition will feature a wide variety of work exploring themes of community housing, homelessness, mental health, addictions, resilience, co-operation and working together, healing, diversity and inclusion.
Participation in the virtual art exhibition is free for selected artists and will be hosted on the Housing Central Conference website from October 25 – December 31, 2021.

This is just a brief update for those interested in the City of Vancouver leasehold conversation.
City staff had intended to bring forward a report to Council in December 2020. That report will be delayed to the Council meeting scheduled for February 10, 2021.
CHF BC will work closely with members between now and then to get the best possible outcome.
