In June 2015, CHF BC organized a pair of meetings to start conversations with co-ops that have City of Vancouver leases. The first meetings were for co-ops with short-term leases or ground-rent leases (i.e. leases that weren’t prepaid). On November 19, CHF BC hosted a follow-up meeting with representatives from interested Vancouver co-ops, management companies and Re*Plan. About 30 people attended, and they contributed to a fruitful discussion concerning co-op priorities and likely City interests regarding any lease renewals.
A PDF copy of the presentation (including participant comments) is available now.
The City hasn’t yet offered much guidance on how to address co-op lease concerns. The November meeting ended with an enthusiastic response to the idea that CHF BC and member co-ops should take the initiative of developing a strategic framework to present to the City (rather than wait for the City to act).
CHF BC will contact participants in the new year about meeting again.
