CHF BC BENEFITS
DIRECT-TO-MEMBERS

Since 1982, CHF BC has offered housing co-ops the supports and services they need, and group buying has been a big part of that. More recently, we have expanded some of our programs to target individuals residing in co-ops.

You can save on telecom services with Telus, and on a whole range of products from Rona. As residents of a CHF BC-affiliated co-op, you also have access to other services like our member inquiries line and our education programs. Learn more!

Resident Member Program

CHF BC's resident member programs offer significant savings for families and individuals living in member housing co-ops.

Residents of CHF BC-affiliated co-ops can access services such as maintenance, home decor, and gardening supplies through RONA at reduced rates and enjoy deep discounts on high-speed internet and TV from Telus. These savings can help improve the quality of life and add benefits to living in a housing co-operative.

Benefits All Around

By participating in CHF BC's resident member programs, you and your co-op benefit directly and indirectly!

Co-op residents and members save money directly on services and products that interest them, and because program activity also benefits CHF BC it reduces pressure to raise CHF BC member dues. Everyone can benefit! And members’ active participation in the services offered by the federation is vital to fostering a greater sense of community and involvement, making them an integral part of our shared successes.

Member Inquiries

If you have a question about how co-ops work, or if you're looking for help around CHF BC resources, check out our member inquiry service.

Members of housing co-ops are able to access trained staff at CHF BC with their questions around governance and management and how CHF BC can support co-ops. There are many resources on our website, but you can reach us by email (members@chf.bc.ca) or phone as well. Better yet, use our member inquiry form. Staff work regular office hours and aim to respond to questions within two business days.

What is a Housing Co-op?

Even though many people are members of co-operatives (like credit unions, or Modo, the Cooperators or Peninsula Co-op), co-ops—and especially housing co-ops—are less familiar than limited companies and charities.

CHF BC and its member housing co-ops are part of a bigger community of co-operatives.

We’ve put together a video that answers some basic questions about co-operatives and how housing co-ops have some special characteristics that makes them a great alternative to more common rental and ownership models.

Watch the video here, or on YouTube and learn more!

If you want to hear a little more about how housing co-ops fit in with the broader co-operative movement, there’s a slightly longer version of the video, too.)
