Many members are asking us, “How can I best support the humanitarian and resilience needs of Ukrainians?” Our friends at the Co-operative Development Fund of Canada (CDF) are actively raising much-needed funds for the people of Ukraine and calling on the cooperative community across Canada to help.
Money raised will enable CDF to respond to the humanitarian and resilience needs of their project’s beneficiaries and their families, CDF Ukraine’s staff and families, and thrir local partner’s staff and members.
CDF Canada is particularly concerned about the impact on Ukrainian women as they have made significant progress in supporting women’s lives through their SEW Ukraine Project. Their beneficiaries are more than 2,000 vulnerable women, including Internally Displaced Person living in the Kyiv (Kyiw), Kharkov (Kharkiv), and Dnipropetrovsk (Dnipro) oblasts of Ukraine. These women are still recovering from the 2014 conflict and again find themselves at the crossroads of war!
The support could include preparedness, immediate and ongoing relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency, and other critical humanitarian activities as needs arise, both in Ukraine and surrounding countries, including supporting populations displaced.
The money raised will be disbursed through CDF Canada and its main partner and there will be no CDF Canada fundraising cost. The first funds received will be sent to their partner who opened a refugee support group in its own branch to support families in need.
