Summer is coming! Portable Air Conditioner units can help cool homes during extreme heat events.
If you live in an income-qualified household (and/or have a recommendation letter from your regional health authority’s Home Care Program), you may be eligible for a free portable air conditioner (AC).
Qualified households can access one portable AC unit and a one-time installation. As opposed to being mounted to walls, portable AC units are wheeled, installed by connecting a flexible duct hose through an open window, and plugged into a standard wall outlet.
The BC government’s Free Portable Air Conditioning program is a $10 million initiative delivered in partnership with BC Hydro.

Households, including co-op members, that meet income qualification and live in an eligible housing type can apply. Eligible housing types include apartments, row homes, and townhomes. Co-op members will also need to get the board to complete a Landlord Consent Form to submit alongside their application.
Air conditioning units are available to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to funding.
