While we aren’t usually excited about pictures of a hole in the ground, we’re making exceptions to these photos taken last weekend. They are of the concrete pads and footings for a new co-operative being laid in the Joyce Collingwood neighbourhood of Vancouver.
When finished, this will be home to a co-operative community of 102 low- and moderate-income households The development is part of the Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency’s seven-site program, The site was awarded to the Community Land Trust in 2018 and a 99-year lease was entered into with the City of Vancouver in February 2022.
The site is in east Vancouver, near the Joyce–Collingwood SkyTrain station and Collingwood Neighbourhood House. The building will be a six-storey wood frame construction designed to Passive House standards. When completed, the co-op will look something like this:
The building is scheduled for completion—and will begin taking applications—in the fall of 2024, with an anticipated move in date in early 2025. Stay tuned for more details as construction progresses.
