It may not look like much yet, but there are definite signs of activity at the corner of Burrard and Davie in Downtown Vancouver. The rebar has reached street level and the concrete foundations aren’t far behind at one of Community Land Trust‘s latest construction projects.
Community Land Trust works with both co-ops and non-profit housing societies to develop housing across the province, often also collaborating with municipalities and senior governments. The new building at the northwest corner of Burrard and Davie will be 17 storeys tall, allow McLaren House to provide 154 homes to people and also offer a new home to Qmunity, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community hub and social service centre.
The project will be finished in 2026, offering another success for the community housing sector and highlighting the importance of partnerships. Even with optimal support, construction takes time, but this mass timber project will meet passive house efficiency standards and be a community anchor for decades to come.
