We are very sad to say goodbye to Fiona Jackson as she leaves CHF BC to take on a new challenge.  Since January 2010, Fiona has been the steward of the communication channels between CHF BC and our members. 

For CHF BC, she has been a calming and mature presence, and someone who would provide an ear and soothing resolution to the day to day challenges that co-op members faced.  Fiona has demonstrated a commitment and loyalty to CHF BC’s mission and vision and the co-operative values.

The Housing Central Virtual Art Exhibition will feature a wide variety of work exploring themes of community housing, homelessness, mental health, addictions, resilience, co-operation and working together, healing, diversity and inclusion.

Participation in the virtual art exhibition is free for selected artists and will be hosted on the Housing Central Conference website from October 25 – December 31, 2021.

CHF BC is pleased to introduce its first Sustainability Newsletter.  This will be a quarterly communication that looks at the environment, with a focus on housing co-ops and the work of CHF BC’s Climate Emergency Task Force.

July 2021 was an important month for housing co-ops in BC, and especially in Vancouver. After years of work (and lobbying) on the part of co-op members, CHF BC staff, and City of Vancouver staff, Vancouver’s City Council unanimously approved a new framework for lease renewals. CHF BC can now confirm that Vancouver City Council plans to hear a report from staff on housing co-op lease renewals on July 7. The staff report will be released to the public on June 30, 2021.

We will be holding two town halls for members to prepare for the Council meeting.

In thinking about environmental sustainability, we must also consider past injustices and exclusions against Indigenous, Black, People of Colour and other marginalized populations, as well as their different perspectives.

Some last-minute considerations have emerged that will push the Council report on co-op leases to July 6 or 7.  As a result, the public release of the Council report will not happen any earlier than June 29.

CHF BC is therefore postponing the June 17 town hall to a date later in June or early in July.  The date will be announced at the earliest opportunity, as soon as we receive word on the final schedule.  We will share more information with you as it becomes available.
