Delegates voted to approve a resolution from Terra Nova Housing Co-op to support Homes BC co-ops in their attempts to ensure that their right to remain federation members is not questioned by BC Housing. Delegates also approved the Federation’s budget for 2003-2004 which includes a 10 cent increase in dues to $2.90 per unit per month.
The SAGM featured a Rooftops Canada presentation by CHF BC director Mike Alsop who has just returned from a ten-day trip to observe Rooftops’ work in Africa.
It also included an announcement of a new trust fund to help women fleeing abusive relationships. The trust, endowed with $25,000 by BC’s minister of Women’s Equality, will help women get into a housing co-op with no-interest loans to defray the cost of purchasing their co-op share. The trust will be administered by the Community Housing Land Trust Foundation.
